Out now PLANET A

PLANET A presents work series from the last fifteen years that focus on the movements of the earth and of the elements which occur across vastly different scales of age and scope, thus establishing a distinct relationship with our human measure of time and space. The book provides a sensual insight into Kati Gausmann’s artistic practice, which combines studies in natural science and the humanities, studio work, and artistic methods deployed in on-site fieldwork. The various landscapes in which the works were created and the natural processes underlying them are poetically conveyed. Hanne Loreck’s essay unfolds the complexity of this artistic practice, situates it within the current discourse, and highlights topical questions related to the planet and to the Anthropocene.

Available in Berlin at bookshops including Bücherbogen am Savignyplatz, do you read me and Hopscotch Reading Room, can be ordered in any bookshop.

Artist Statement

I am fascinated by geological processes and how little we perceive the earth movements in which we are unavoidably implicated.

My research involves tracing this activity.

I want to understand the interaction of time and space:
the activity as a whole, how it comes about, and me in my human measure.

My artistic approach is process oriented.
It combines drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance.

My practical work is accompanied by theoretical discourse.
Artistic expeditions and fieldwork represent a significant part of my work process.

Projects

fieldwork

Many of my works have been created in fieldwork in recent years. In this blog you can find impressions from working residencies in the Icelandic East Fjords and on the Reykjanes Peninsula, in the Spanish High Pyrenees and in Northern Norway as well as topics related to these stays.

einszueins

In my project onetoone – Art at the Røyal Bakery, I present and mediate contemporary art within the context of everyday life in Berlin. Three times a year, I invite artists to create a wall piece at the Røyal Bakery. During the exhibition, the artists barter their work for a daily supply of bread.
Current exhibition einszueins (24) Petra Lottje ‘pure romantik’, until 06.04.2024
